One of the most famous trips is that to the top of Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales, located in snowdonia national park in the North West. The Snowdonia Mountain Railway takes you from Llanberis to the top of the mountain at 3560ft the highest point in England and Wales.
The Ffestiniog Railway is the Oldest Independent Railway Company in the World. You can travel by steam through the spectacular scenery of the Snowdonia National Park, between Porthmadog and Blaenau Ffestiniog. Today the Company also operates trains on its sister railway, the Welsh Highland Railway, between Caernarfon and Rhyd Ddu - the halfway point of a major project to re-open the old line through to Porthmadog.
The Llanberis Lake Railway will be the highlight of your visit to Snowdonia. From your seat in the comfortable enclosed coaches you can enjoy spectacular views of Snowdon and the surrounding high mountains.
WELSHPOOL and LLANFAIR RAILWAY Your journey begins on the edge of the historic market town of Welshpool. Right from the start it is all action as the train battles up the notoriously steep Golfa Bank accompanied by the sound of the locomotive echoing off the hills.
